Japan’s first feminine photojournalist Tsuneko Sasamoto, who captured the lives of civilians below the nation’s tumultuous Showa period, has died on the age of 107.
Sasamoto handed away on August 15 within the beachside metropolis of Kamakura, south of Tokyo, the Japan Professional Photographers Society, of which Sasamoto was an honorary member, confirmed to CNN Tuesday.
She died of pure causes, the group stated.
Sasamoto was largely credited as a pioneer in her discipline.
