Law enforcement officers collected 105 undesirable firearms at a gun security occasion in Encinitas this weekend, authorities stated Sunday.
Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office had been joined Saturday at Encinitas City Hall by investigators from the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office and personnel with the Carlsbad and Oceanside police departments.
They collected 45 handguns, 57 rifles/shotguns and three assault rifles in alternate for a $100 present card for handguns, rifles and shotguns or a $200 present card for assault weapons, the SDSO stated in an announcement.
Two firearm lock packing containers and 56 gun cable locks had been additionally given out free of charge.
“All weapons collected will be processed. Any firearms found to have been involved in a crime will be referred to the appropriate law enforcement agency,” sheriff’s officers stated. “If any guns are found to be stolen, the original owners will be contacted.
