Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) on Monday started the twenty first discharge of nuclear-contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant for the reason that controversial launch program began in August 2023.
The newest discharge, the third for fiscal 2026, started at 11:41 a.m. native time (0241 GMT), in response to native media stories. TEPCO stated the operation is scheduled to proceed by way of July 24, throughout which about 7,800 tonnes of ALPS-treated nuclear-contaminated water might be launched into the ocean.
The firm stated the discharged water comprises about 1.3 trillion becquerels of tritium after dilution to satisfy its operational requirements.
TEPCO plans to conduct eight discharge rounds totaling about 62,400 tonnes of nuclear-contaminated water throughout fiscal 2026.
Despite considerations and opposition from the worldwide neighborhood, Japan started releasing the Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water into the Pacific Ocean in August 2023. So far, TEPCO has accomplished 20 discharge rounds, releasing a cumulative whole of about 157,000 tonnes of nuclear-contaminated water.
