TOKYO –
A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.9 struck the better Tokyo area shortly after 2 a.m. on August 23, registering a most depth of decrease 5 on Japan’s seven-level seismic scale in Ibaraki, Saitama, Chiba and Tokyo, with no menace of a tsunami.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the earthquake occurred at round 2:00 a.m., with its epicenter in southern Ibaraki Prefecture.
The focus was estimated to be about 70 kilometers beneath the floor, whereas the magnitude was estimated at 5.9.
An emergency earthquake warning was issued for the quake.
Strong shaking was additionally noticed in central Tokyo, together with the Shinjuku district.
The Japan Meteorological Agency stated there was no hazard of a tsunami from the earthquake.
