Babies Take Part in Traditional Sumo Ceremony

In Shinonsen Town, Hyogo Prefecture, a conventional occasion generally known as ‘Chigo Dohyo-iri,’ which prays for the wholesome progress of youngsters, was held.

On August 24, at a shrine in Shinonsen Town, infants have been carried by sumo wrestlers as a part of the non secular ceremony for the ‘Iwayama Jizo Daigongen Festival.’ The custom holds that the louder a child cries whereas being carried by the wrestler, the more healthy they may develop as much as be.
