Emperor Naruhito carried out the annual rice harvest at a paddy area inside the Imperial Palace on September 8, slicing two kinds of rice that will probably be utilized in ceremonies together with the Niinamesai harvest competition.
Holding a sickle and crouching beside the rice crops, the emperor harvested a complete of 20 stalk clusters of Nihonmasari, a wide range of non-glutinous rice, and Mangetsumochi, a wide range of glutinous rice used for making mochi.
