Victor Wembanyama has reversed course, deciding to not play for France on this summer time’s FIBA World Cup so he can deal with coaching for his upcoming rookie season within the NBA and the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Wembanyama, final week’s No. 1 choose by the San Antonio Spurs within the NBA draft, introduced his determination in an interview with the French newspaper L’Equipe.
“It would not be realistic in terms of development and not prudent in terms of health,” Wembanyama advised the newspaper. “I hope people will understand. It’s frustrating for me, too. The France team is still central for me. I want to win as many titles as possible with the team. But I think it’s a necessary sacrifice.”
France is the reigning Olympic silver medalist that has an eye fixed on successful the World Cup in September. However, Wembanyama stated he is already taking a look at enjoying 170 video games in a 24-month interval, between the NBA and the upcoming Olympics, a far larger load than he is ever performed.
Wembanyama, 19, stated it was his determination, including that the Spurs would have supported his alternative both manner.
The World Cup runs from Aug. 25 to Sept. 10, with video games taking place within the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.
