The writer community URL Media has secured a $5 million grant from the Knight Foundation, a transformative funding for the startup that may allow it to develop its enterprise, construct new income infrastructure, and increase assist for the communities it serves.
Founded in 2021 by media veterans Sara Lomax and S. Mitra Kalita, URL Media operates a community of impartial publishers serving Black, Latino, Asian, Indigenous, and immigrant audiences, serving to monetize the publishers and offering further providers. The firm started with eight writer companions and has since grown to 37 retailers, together with Capital B, Epicenter, Scalawag, and Documented. With the brand new funding, it plans to greater than triple that footprint.
