Dubai [UAE], April 28 (ANI/WAM): The United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted on Friday a decision drafted by the United Arab Emirates and Japan, of their capacities as co-penholders on the Afghanistan file, that condemns the Taliban’s resolution banning Afghan ladies from working for the UN in Afghanistan.
The decision was co-sponsored by greater than 90 UN member states, together with, for the primary time, greater than 28 Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
“By adopting this resolution, the UN Security Council is sending an unequivocal message of condemnation and a clear call for the swift reversal, not only of this latest ban but of others restricting the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan,” stated Ambassador Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. “Stability, economic recovery, and political reconciliation are not possible in Afghanistan without the inclusion of Afghan women and girls.”The decision requires the total, equal, significant, and protected participation of girls and women in Afghanistan; stresses the pressing have to proceed addressing the dire financial and humanitarian scenario in Afghanistan; and recognises the necessity to use property belonging to Afghanistan’s Central Bank for the Afghan individuals’s profit.
The decision additionally reaffirms the indispensable position of girls in Afghan society and expresses deep concern over the growing erosion of respect for the human rights and basic freedoms of girls in Afghanistan. (ANI/WAM)
