The dollar index, which measures the dollar in opposition to six main friends, gained 0.49 p.c to 107.865 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).
In late New York buying and selling, the euro decreased to 1.0435 U.S. {dollars} from 1.0493 {dollars} within the earlier session, and the British pound declined to 1.2443 {dollars} from 1.2490 {dollars} within the earlier session.
The U.S. dollar purchased 155.53 Japanese yen, larger than 154.55 Japanese yen of the earlier session. The U.S. dollar was as much as 0.9040 Swiss francs from 0.9014 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.4396 Canadian {dollars} from 1.4377 Canadian {dollars}. The U.S. dollar rose to 10.9899 Swedish Kronor from 10.9362 Swedish Kronor.
