Tokyo palace grounds to open for fall foliage viewing after 3-year hiatus

TOKYO, Nov 12 (NHK) –
Japan’s Imperial Household Agency has announced that an avenue inside the Imperial Palace in Tokyo will be reopened to the public for autumn foliage viewing after a three-year hiatus.

Starting in 2014, the public was granted access to Inui Street during the spring cherry blossom season and in the autumn when the leaves change color. The 600-meter-long avenue is lined with maple trees.

Viewings were suspended when the coronavirus pandemic began. The agency says that Inui Street will be open to the public for nine days this year, from November 26 through December 4.

Visitors will be allowed in from 9 a.m. at Sakashita-mon Gate, and must exit at Inui-mon Gate by 3:30 p.m. They must follow a one-way path between the gates.
