Call it a comeback, a crossover second, or each. Twenty years in the past, The Chicks launched their blockbuster 2006 album “Taking the Long Way” — their first full-length after the nation music trade turned their backs on them — and one of many greatest of their profession. This fall, the Texas trio of Emily Strayer, Martie Maguire and Natalie Maines will take it on the street, hitting intimate theaters throughout the U.S.
“This album in particular is what I think fans would say is the most recognized time in our career,” says Maines.
And so, they count on the reveals — which can function them performing “Taking the Long Way” in full in addition to extra songs — will even have them reminiscing in regards to the album and the very uncommon time that led as much as it, on stage.
The second that modified the whole lot was again in 2003, when then-President George W. Bush was getting ready to invade Iraq. And so, they wrote the triumphant “Taking the Long Way,” produced by Rick Rubin, after “licking our wounds,” as Strayer places it.
“Not Ready to Make Nice” got here out of that. “It was like, ‘This is solely selfish. This is our lives,’” Maines says of the song. And they were shocked when it connected — but now, they recognize that “people have their own ‘Not Ready to Make Nice’ story to inform.”
The album went on to earn them 5 Grammy Awards, together with album, tune and report of the 12 months, and marked a transformative second for the band. And its themes nonetheless resonate.
“Re-listening and rehearing those songs, I was surprised how relevant they still seemed and how universal they still seemed even though they were such personal stories,” says Strayer.
