TASS: Russian state may take over Toyota’s St. Petersburg plant

MOSCOW, Russia: State run news company TASS has reported that Russia’s Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov stated that Japanese automobile maker Toyota’s St Petersburg plant could also be transferred to Russia’s Central Automobile and Engine Research and Development Institute, NAMI.

“The transfer of Toyota’s Russian assets to NAMI is being considered,” Manturov stated, on the sidelines of a enterprise congress.

Renault and Nissan crops in Russia have already been taken over by NAMI.

This week, a spokesperson for Toyota stated that after deciding final yr to finish manufacturing in St Petersburg final March, it was contemplating its choices.

“While it is true that we are considering various options, nothing has been decided at this point,” the spokesperson stated.

In September, Toyota stated that as a result of interrupted provides of key supplies and components, it had determined to finish its automobile manufacturing in Russia.
