Sea Shepherd Founder Released After Denmark Rejects Extradition to Japan

Paul Watson, founding father of the anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd, who had been detained in Greenland, a Danish territory, has been launched after Danish authorities rejected Japan’s extradition request.

Watson, 74, was taken into custody on July twenty first in Greenland beneath a world warrant issued by Japan. He was accused of instructing his associates in 2010 to hinder the navigation of Japan’s analysis whaling vessels.

On June seventeenth, Denmark’s Ministry of Justice introduced its determination to not approve Japan’s request for Watson’s extradition. The ministry cited the numerous passage of time for the reason that incident, which occurred 14 years in the past, and the uncertainty over whether or not Watson’s detention interval in Greenland can be subtracted from any potential sentence in Japan.
