South Korea says visitors from Japan will be allowed to enter the country without a visa from November 1.
The South Korean government announced on Wednesday that the visa waiver will be fully restored for eight countries and regions. The benefit was suspended to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and as a reciprocal measure.
Visa-free travel from Japan was suspended on March 9, 2020. But the suspension was lifted for a limited period in early August this year to encourage more tourists to visit. The period was due to end on August 31, but has been extended to October 31.
Japan reintroduced its visa waiver program for visitors from South Korea on October 11.
Travelers to and from both countries will be allowed visa-free entry for the first time in about two years and seven months.
Flights between Tokyo’s Haneda and Seoul’s Gimpo airports are expected to double to 56 round trips a week from October 30.
