Prince Hisahito’s Coming-of-Age Carriage Unveiled

TOKYO, Aug 28 (News On Japan) –
Prince Hisahito, the eldest son of Crown Prince Akishino, will journey a 112-year-old restored ceremonial carriage at his coming-of-age ceremony in September.

Finished in a deep reddish-brown and emblazoned with the imperial chrysanthemum crest, the coach—often known as Ceremonial Carriage No. 4—might be used on September 6. Such ceremonial carriages are deployed for main imperial rites, together with the Emperor’s enthronement.

Carriage No. 4 is a two-horse coach constructed domestically in Taisho 2 (1913), measuring about 4.5 meters in size. Akishino additionally rode the identical carriage at his coming-of-age ceremony 40 years in the past.

On September 6, after the ceremony by which he dons the coronet marking maturity, Hisahito will journey throughout the Imperial Palace grounds in full courtroom robes aboard the carriage.
