A analysis group from the Okinawa Churashima Foundation and the University of Tokyo has introduced the invention of a brand new coral species named Ryukyu Coral. The coral was collected in 2013 throughout a deep-sea survey off the east coast of Okinawa’s primary island.
According to the inspiration, the coral’s evenly spaced branching sample and the scale and form of skeletal fragments inside its tissues differ from beforehand recorded species, confirming it as a brand new member of the genus Leptoseris.
The analysis group proposed the identify Ryukyu Coral for each its scientific and Japanese names, citing its putting crimson coloration and symmetrical branching as distinctive options.
