The Washington Mystics signed guard Ariel Atkins to a multiyear contract extension on Tuesday.
The workforce didn’t announce contract particulars, however The Washington Post reported it’s a two-year extension.
“We are excited that Ariel has committed herself to the long-term future of the Washington Mystics,” common supervisor Mike Thibault stated in a news launch. “She has been such an integral part of our success and is entering the prime of her career. Ariel has worked hard to improve every season and the respect she has in our locker room will allow her to take on an even bigger leadership role as we move forward.”
Atkins, 27, is a two-time All-Star. She gained the WNBA title with the Mystics in 2019 and a gold medal on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Atkins has been sidelined with an ankle harm since July 11. In 19 video games this season, she is averaging 12.5 factors, 2.7 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals.
The Mystics chosen Atkins with the No. 7 choose within the 2018 draft. In her six years with Washington, she has averages of 13.3 factors, 2.3 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 169 video games (164 begins).
The Mystics have choices to make about a number of veterans. Two-time WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne, Tianna Hawkins, Natasha Cloud and Kristi Toliver all are eligible to turn out to be free brokers after the season.
