More than 1,000 hearth ants, a delegated invasive species, have been present in a container at Yokohama Port. This marks the primary confirmed case in Japan this 12 months.

More than 1,000 hearth ants, a delegated invasive species, have been present in a container at Yokohama Port. This marks the primary confirmed case in Japan this 12 months.

According to the Ministry of the Environment, on May 16, quite a few ants had been found in an empty container at Honmoku Pier in Yokohama City. The container had been shipped from a port in China, unloaded at Tokyo Port, had its contents delivered in Ōta Ward, Tokyo, and was then returned to Yokohama Port.

On the next day, pest management measures had been carried out, and on May 20, specialists confirmed that the ants had been certainly hearth ants.

Over 1,000 employee ants and greater than 20 winged queen ants had been discovered within the container.

This is the primary time hearth ants have been present in Japan this 12 months.

Fire ants are recognized to have a potent venom and might sting people. They are designated as a particular invasive species.

The Ministry of the Environment plans to proceed inserting pesticides and monitoring the state of affairs.
