Maiko Scatter Beans at Kyoto’s Yasaka Shrine

KYOTO, Feb 02 (News On Japan) –
Ahead of Setsubun on February 2nd, maiko and geiko gathered at Kyoto’s Yasaka Shrine to carry out a conventional bean-scattering ritual.

On February 1st, the performers threw small baggage of roasted soybeans, marking the start of the annual Setsubun Festival on the shrine.

The ritual, believed to keep off evil spirits and produce success and well being, noticed roughly 2,000 packets of beans scattered inside ten minutes. Shrine officers, together with women and men born below the zodiac signal of the 12 months, participated within the occasion.

A customer on the shrine shared their pleasure: “I got four packets! (Q: Will you eat them according to your age?) I’ll just eat them normally.”
