Japan’s Oldest Train ‘N-Den’ Moved From Heian Shrine for Restoration

KYOTO, Feb 23 (News On Japan) –
Japan’s oldest current practice, the Kyoto Electric Railway streetcar (Kyoto City Transport Bureau No. 2 practice, generally often called N-Den), was relocated by crane early on February nineteenth close to the Otenmon gate at Heian Shrine in Kyoto’s Sakyo Ward.

Originally operated by Kyoto Electric Railway (Kyoden), which launched Japan’s first streetcar system within the Meiji period, the practice is designated as a nationally vital cultural property.

Previously housed and displayed in a paid admission space throughout the shrine grounds, the practice had been going through deterioration points. To deal with this, Heian Shrine, the practice’s proprietor, plans to surround it for in depth restoration work, aiming for a public reopening with free entry in a single 12 months.
