Nara’s Asuka and Fujiwara Palaces have been formally beneficial as a candidate for UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage record, with the aim of attaining registration on the World Heritage Committee assembly scheduled for the 12 months after subsequent.
Tetsurō Hishida, chairman of the World Cultural Heritage Subcommittee on the Cultural Council, made the announcement on Monday, stating, “We have selected the ‘Asuka and Fujiwara Palaces’ as a candidate for World Heritage status.”
On at the present time, the Agency for Cultural Affairs held a gathering of the Cultural Council, which discusses candidates for UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage record, and determined to suggest the “Asuka and Fujiwara Palaces” in Nara Prefecture as Japan’s home candidate. The web site consists of the stays of Asuka Palace, Fujiwara Palace, and the Takamatsuzuka Tomb, identified for its murals depicting the “Asuka Beauty.”
In 2023, the nomination was postponed as a result of issues that preservation efforts for the ruins had been inadequate. Since then, native governments have labored to designate further websites as historic landmarks and submitted a draft of the nomination doc to the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
The company plans to submit the ultimate nomination doc to UNESCO by the top of January 2025, aiming for registration on the World Heritage Committee within the following 12 months.
