China urges Japan to vary course, instantly appropriate its wrongdoing and get rid of the nuclear-contaminated water in a very accountable manner, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated on Friday.
“We have said repeatedly that the Japanese government is acting against strong international opposition and against the rights of people in Japan and elsewhere to health, development and a healthy environment by forcibly starting the ocean discharge of the Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water and putting the world at risk of nuclear contamination,” spokesperson Wang Wenbin advised a news briefing.
This is extraordinarily egocentric and irresponsible, Wang stated, noting that Japan has but to show the legitimacy and legality of its ocean discharge resolution, the long-term reliability of the purification facility, and the authenticity and accuracy of the nuclear-contaminated water knowledge.
“It has yet to deliver on its commitment to the IAEA and the international community and establish an international long-term monitoring and on-site supervision arrangement led by the IAEA and with full participation of state stakeholders,” the spokesperson added.
On August 24, in disregard of the sturdy criticism and opposition from the worldwide neighborhood, the Japanese authorities unilaterally began the discharge of the Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water into the ocean.
