TOKYO, fifteenth August, 2023 (WAM) — Nearly 800 flights had been cancelled and tens of hundreds of properties misplaced energy as a slow-moving storm made landfall in western Japan early on Tuesday, prompting authorities to situation flood and landslide warnings.
Approaching from the Pacific Ocean, Typhoon Lan made landfall on the southern tip of Wakayama prefecture, some 400km (250 miles) southwest of Tokyo, Reuters reported.
The storm, which adopted carefully on the heels of Typhoon Khanun throughout Japan’s peak Obon vacation season, lashed huge swathes of central and western Japan with heavy rain and highly effective winds.
