Individuals donated 120 pure gold bars, totaling 60 kilograms, to Tanohata Village in Iwate Prefecture for the development of the village. The money was converted into cash for more than 500 million yen, about one-sixth of the village’s initial budget.
Since Tanohata Village was founded in 1889, it is considered to be the largest donation, which is equivalent to about one-sixth of the initial budget for this fiscal year.
Mayor Sasaki said, “I am very grateful. The gold that I actually saw was very shiny and heavy. There were some issues where we could not invest the budget due to the severe financial situation, so we discussed with the assembly and considered how to use it effectively. I want to go,” he said.
