Before the 12th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake, a training session was held for the staff of the Sendai City Fire Department, who were involved in rescue activities, to convey their experiences at the time to young staff members.
Among them, Michihiko Sugawara, who belonged to the disaster prevention air corps, said, “When I saw the helicopter being washed away, I didn’t know what to do. If I had a helicopter, I could have saved my life. I regretted that I didn’t,” he said, expressing his unchanging complex feelings.
