Both yokozuna, Toyoshoryu and Onosato, carried out a dedication ring-entering ceremony on January sixth at Meiji Shrine in Tokyo forward of the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament, which begins on January eleventh at Ryogoku Kokugikan, drawing a crowd of round 2,000 spectators underneath clear skies.
It marked the primary time in six years that yokozuna from the east and west appeared collectively for the normal New Year ceremony, the final being in 2020 with Hakuho and Kakuryu.
