The San Diego Wave introduced the signing of former Chelsea striker Catarina Macario on Friday.
The 26-year-old U.S. Women’s National Team veteran is signed by way of the 2030 NWSL marketing campaign.
Macario, who was born in Brazil and starred at Stanford, performed for youth groups whereas rising up within the San Diego space.
‘It’s wonderful to see all of (my household’s) sacrifices paying off. San Diego means a lot to me. It’s the place I grew up,’ Macario mentioned in a video launched by the Wave. ‘It’s the place I turned a younger lady, the place I discovered to talk English and made lifelong pals. To be again right here and truly signify the town and play for San Diego, it means quite a bit to me.’
Since successful back-to-back MAC Hermann trophies because the nationwide participant of the 12 months (2018-19) and main Stanford to 2 NCAA championships (2017, 2019), Macario has performed professionally in France (Lyon, 2021-23) and England (Chelsea, 2023-26).
Internationally, Macario has tallied 16 objectives and 5 assists in 29 appearances with the USWNT since turning into an American citizen in 2020. She received a bronze medal on the Tokyo Olympics.
