beijing – A hurricane was headed towards southern China and Hong Kong Friday after bringing record-breaking winds and leaving one lifeless in Taiwan.
Typhoon Koinu, after initially weakening, regained energy because it headed west throughout the South China Sea towards China’s Guangdong province, the China Meteorological Administration mentioned. The slow-moving storm was forecast to stay at sea, bringing rain to China’s southern coast by the weekend because it passes south of Guangdong and Hong Kong.
The storm was about 240 kilometers (150 miles) southeast of Hong Kong and transferring at about 12 kilometers (7 miles) per hour Friday night, the town authorities’s Hong Kong Observatory mentioned. It issued a robust wind warning and forecast squally showers, heavy at instances, within the coming days.
