Tokyo Bay Turns Pale Blue

TOKYO, Aug 19 (News On Japan) –
Tokyo Bay’s waters have taken on a pale blue hue on account of a phenomenon generally known as ‘blue tide.’ This happens when a considerable amount of plankton dies and sinks to the underside of the ocean, resulting in a lower in oxygen ranges within the water. Strong winds then trigger the oxygen-depleted water to rise, ensuing within the change in colour.

According to Chiba Prefecture, the “blue tide” was noticed this morning at areas reminiscent of Funabashi Port and Chiba Port on the northern aspect of Tokyo Bay. The phenomenon is believed to be brought on by the robust winds from Typhoon No. 7.

So far, no harm has been reported on account of the blue tide.
