Three males have been arrested on suspicion of promoting tusks from endangered elephants on a web based public sale website after falsely labeling them as “mammoth tusks” or “ivory-style” merchandise.
Police stated the suspects embrace secondhand items seller Naoto Takemae, 47, who together with two others is accused of promoting African elephant tusks with out registering them with the federal government, as required by legislation for endangered species, in 2025.
Investigators stated Takemae listed the elephant tusks on public sale websites utilizing deceptive descriptions corresponding to “mammoth tusks” and “ivory-style,” producing gross sales totaling about 1.08 million yen.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, Takemae admitted the allegations, saying, “I knew it was illegal, but I sold them because I didn’t know how to dispose of them.”
