Since its 2007 inception, the Sony World Photography Awards has been a platform for a number of the world’s strongest images.
Unsurprisingly, this 12 months is not any exception.
Over 415,000 photographs from over 200 international locations and territories had been entered into the 2023 contest and over 200,000 had been entered into the Open competitors. From the latter bundle, the judges have now chosen – and revealed – the nationwide award winners.
The National Awards program is an initiative that was established by the World Photography Organisation and Sony to help native photographic communities world wide, with 55 international locations participating this 12 months. New to this 12 months’s awards are 4 new ‘Regional Awards’, which put the highlight on the breadth of photographic expertise in a variety of European international locations.
Among the general prizewinners, there is a candy image of a peeping owlet in Bangladesh, a dramatic shot of a volcanic eruption in Ecuador and a transfixing image of a leopard staring intently on the digicam in Sri Lanka.

Titled ‘Glare of a Predator’, this mesmerising image of a ‘magnificent’ Sri Lankan leopard resting in a tree was captured in Sri Lanka’s Kumana National Park. Impressing the judges, it has earned photographer Rajeev Abeysekara the nationwide award for Sri Lanka. Abeysekara recollects how the leopard ‘stared’ at him by means of the branches, including: ‘It was an unforgettable encounter’
LEFT: The moon rises over snow-coated timber in Finnish Lapland on this otherworldly {photograph} by Roberto Pavic, who wins the ‘Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Bosnia & Herzegovina Regional Award’ this 12 months. LEFT: Photographer Kevin Moncayo captures Equador’s mighty Sangay volcano on this epic {photograph}. He says: ‘Sangay has been energetic for the final couple of years in Ecuador, sending ash to cities which are a whole bunch of miles away.’ The photographer, who takes the silver medal within the Latin America National Awards, provides that he waited for 72 hours to take the shot at daybreak, when the clouds and the celebs had been seen on the similar time. RIGHT: This spellbinding {photograph} was taken in early winter within the Tatra Mountains in Slovakia. Filip Hrebenda, who was behind the lens, says: ‘Winter within the mountains has its allure, even at night time. Titled ‘Captivating Eyes’, this image of a noticed owlet was photographed from beneath a cover on the National Botanical Garden of Bangladesh. Protap Shekhor Mohanto, who’s the nationwide award winner for Bangladesh, says: ‘During the day these wonderful birds have a tendency to cover in nests made within the holes of tree trunks, however they generally peep out to watch their environment with their fascinating yellow eyes’
This wintry shot, titled Wonderland, has earned photographer Yawar Abbas the nationwide award for Pakistan
This gorgeous image of the recent springs in jap Turkey’s Guroymak district has earned Erhan Coral the nationwide award for Turkey. Herdsmen are identified to take their horses and their buffaloes into the springs within the winter months. Coral notes: ‘The sizzling springs preserve a temperature of about 40 levels Celsius, even when the skin temperature is as little as minus 14 levels Celsius’

It was captured by the photographer Andrej Tarfila, who has been shortlisted for the ‘Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Bosnia & Herzegovina Regional Award’
This image exhibits daredevil diver Stefan Jevtic leaping from the Mostar Old Bridge into the Neretva river within the metropolis of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, throughout the 456th high-diving competitors on the bridge. Photographer Armin Durgut explains that on the day, a complete of 31 divers leapt from the bridge. Durgut has been shortlisted for the ‘Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Bosnia & Herzegovina Regional Award’ because of the dynamic shot
Illimani, a mountain close to the town of La Paz in western Bolivia, is the topic of this awe-inspiring shot by photographer Reynaldo San Martin, who has been shortlisted within the Latin America National Awards. Describing the picture, San Martin says: ‘The majestic peak of Illimani stands like a guardian of La Paz metropolis. I took this {photograph} at sundown to seize the gorgeous distinction of blacks and oranges’

LEFT: This atmospheric image of an individual driving their bike subsequent to the Yangjaecheon, a stream in Seoul, has bagged photographer Gyu Seob Shim the nationwide award for South Korea.
