Taipei [Taiwan], January 25 (ANI): Chunghwa Telecom introduced yesterday that communication between Taiwan and Lienchiang County (Matsu) through undersea cable has been restored following a partial restore of the Taiwan-Matsu No. 2 undersea cable, certainly one of two cables broken earlier this month, Taipei Times reported.
In a press launch, Chunghwa Telecom confirmed that transmission by the No. 2 cable resumed at 11:40 am on Wednesday. The restoration concerned “core wire-by-core wire testing and timely emergency repairs by Chunghwa Telecom staff.” With the restoration full, microwave communication, which had been in use since earlier that day, reverted to a backup perform.
The Taiwan-Matsu No. 2 and No. 3 undersea communication cables have been each severed on account of “natural deterioration,” the Ministry of Digital Affairs reported. The No. 2 cable was broken at round 5 am on Wednesday, whereas the No. 3 cable grew to become disconnected on January 15.
Work to restore the No. 3 cable is ongoing. The cable, important for communication visitors between Taiwan and different international locations, was broken 68.17km from the corporate’s Tamsui cable station off Taiwan’s northern coast.
A Cameroon-flagged, Chinese-operated freighter, Shunxin-39, is suspected of inflicting the injury. Chunghwa Telecom stated it contacted a Yokohama-based company in Japan to dispatch a restore ship, enabling restoration of communication between Taiwan and nations together with the US, Japan, and South Korea, Taipei Times reported.
Taiwan operates 14 worldwide undersea communication cables and 10 home cables, all essential to sustaining steady and environment friendly connectivity.
