Talks between Hollywood studios and negotiators for the SAG-AFTRA actors’ union have been suspended after the union offered its most up-to-date proposal, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) stated on Wednesday.
SAG-AFTRA, Hollywood’s largest union representing 160,000 tv and movie performers, walked off the job on July 14 demanding larger base wages and residual pay from streaming TV in addition to restrictions on the usage of synthetic intelligence (AI) in leisure.
It offered its newest proposals on Wednesday.
“SAG-AFTRA’s current offer included what it characterized as a viewership bonus that, by itself, would cost more than $800 million per year – which would create an untenable economic burden,” stated the AMPTP, which represents Walt Disney, Netflix and different studios.
On points like normal wage will increase, high-budget subscription video on demand (SVOD) residuals, and viewership bonuses, the AMPTP supplied the identical phrases ratified by the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and Writers Guild of America (WGA), it stated, including that the SAG-AFTRA rejected them.
SAG-AFTRA didn’t instantly reply to a Reuters request for remark.
This week, members of the WGA authorized a brand new three-year contract with main studios, 5 months after the union known as a strike. The new contract gives pay raises, some protections round use of synthetic intelligence and different positive aspects.
AMPTP stated it hoped the actors’ union would rethink and return to productive negotiations quickly.
