Sales of Japanese carmakers Toyota, Nissan and Honda sink in China as they fall behind in EV race

Japan’s high carmakers suffered an enormous setback in China within the first half, with gross sales plunging almost 20 per cent, their greatest drop on the earth’s largest automotive market since 2012, the place the shift to electrical autos (EVs) is accelerating.

The high six – Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Subaru – all of which assemble and promote vehicles by their joint ventures with Chinese companions, offered 1.71 million typical autos between January and June, a 19.9 per cent decline 12 months on 12 months, based on trade knowledge supplier MarkLines.
