GIFU, Aug 16 (News On Japan) –
The Tokaido Shinkansen Kodama was halted and partially suspended on Friday evening after white smoke started pouring out from underneath the practice’s carriage between Maibara and Gifu-Hashima.
According to police and Central Japan Railway (JR Tokai), at round 9:45 p.m., the conductor of the upbound Kodama No. 764, touring between Maibara and Gifu-Hashima, seen a burning scent. White smoke was then confirmed coming from beneath the practice.
The practice stopped at Gifu-Hashima Station for inspection, the place about 250 passengers evacuated and transferred to a following service. One passenger reported feeling unwell.
A powerful burnt odor lingered across the station as passengers and bystanders watched the scene.
The outer wall of automotive No. 9 within the 16-car formation was discovered to be broken by warmth. JR Tokai is investigating the trigger.
The Tokaido Shinkansen resumed regular operations from the primary practice on August sixteenth.
