'Napoleon' film too 'anti-French' for some in France

The French have had decidedly blended early reactions to Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon”, which premiered in Paris this week, with one historian calling the film “very anti-French”.

The first evaluations have been unanimous of their reward of the huge-scale battle scenes that punctuate the movie, which is launched worldwide from subsequent Wednesday.

But some French critics and consultants who noticed early previews have been lower than impressed with the depiction of their most well-known historic determine, performed by “Joker” star Joaquin Phoenix.

Historian Patrice Gueniffey informed Le Point journal that Scott “clearly doesn’t like Napoleon”.

“We are treated to a caricature of an ambitious Corsican ogre, a sullen boor, who is also disgusting with his wife, Josephine,” stated Gueniffey, who additionally took problem with the “fanciful” statistics on the finish of the movie saying Napoleon was accountable for three million deaths.
