YANGON, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) — Myanmar has acquired 3,500 tons of rice supplied by South Korea and China for disaster-hit communities for 2025 underneath the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) program 2024, Yin Min Htun, workers officer of the Rice Division underneath the Department of Agriculture, informed Xinhua on Tuesday.
Since 2017, Myanmar’s Department of Agriculture, underneath the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation, has actively participated within the APTERR program for rice storage and distribution, mentioned the official.
Between 2017 and 2023, Myanmar acquired practically 9,000 tons of rice by the APTERR program with the contribution of Plus Three international locations, specifically South Korea, Japan and China, and distributed to the disaster-hit areas, he added.
Myanmar acquired 3,450 tons of rice from South Korea and China by the APTERR program 2023, benefiting over 340,000 individuals by the distribution efforts, he mentioned.
