Monsoon fury claims 192 lives in Himachal; 106 in rain-linked disasters, 86 in street accidents

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 5 (ANI): As the monsoon continues to wreak havoc throughout Himachal Pradesh, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has reported a cumulative loss of life toll of 192 individuals since June 20, 2025. Of these, 106 deaths had been attributable to rain-related calamities akin to landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, and drownings, whereas 86 individuals misplaced their lives in street accidents throughout the identical interval.

The SDMA’s cumulative monsoon injury report, launched on August 5, highlights the extent of devastation attributable to relentless rain. The hill state has suffered losses throughout sectors, together with widespread injury to roads, electrical energy infrastructure, water provide schemes, agriculture, housing, and public establishments.

Among the rain-related fatalities, Mandi district accounted for the best with 23 deaths, adopted by Kangra (24) and Chamba (9). Causes of loss of life embrace landslides (6), flash floods (8), cloudbursts (17), drowning (20), lightning (0), fireplace (1), electrocution (10), and different rain-induced accidents (18).

In addition, the SDMA has confirmed 86 deaths resulting from street accidents, with Mandi (19 deaths) and Shimla (12 deaths) topping the listing, adopted by Kullu (8) and Kangra (6).

Infrastructure losses have reached staggering proportions: 449 roads stay blocked resulting from landslides, together with main nationwide highways like NH-21, NH-003, NH-154, and NH-305.
