Man suspected of strangling spouse in Setagaya residence – TokyoReporter

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 72-year-old man over the alleged strangling of his spouse at their residence in Setagaya Ward, studies NHK (July 14).

A bit after 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Toyohiko Kurabe known as police from his home in Kamikitazawa. “I strangled my wife to death,” he stated.

When law enforcement officials rushed to the scene, they discovered Mayumi Kurabe, 66, collapsed on her futon in a first-floor bed room. She was taken to the hospital, however died shortly thereafter.

According to police, Mayumi had a number of stab wounds to her chest and marks of strangulation on her neck.

Upon his arrest on suspicion of tried homicide, Kurabe stated, “We were going to close the real estate appraiser’s office that I was running, and my wife was urging me to complete the necessary procedures. I was afraid that it would be discovered that I hadn’t done the work.”

Police have since change the fees to homicide. The investigation is ongoing.
