Man Arrested Near U.S. Embassy After Wielding Knife, Injuring Riot Officer

TOKYO, Oct 26 (News On Japan) –
A 38-year-old man was arrested close to the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo’s Minato Ward on October twenty fourth after attacking a riot police officer with a knife, injuring the officer’s proper leg.

Police mentioned the suspect, recognized as Tatsuya Shiota, was apprehended on the spot on suspicion of obstructing official duties. The injured officer sustained a critical wound to the leg after being stabbed whereas subduing the suspect.

According to investigators, Shiota made incoherent statements throughout questioning, at one level claiming that heavy rain in the course of the incident was “the Meteorological Agency’s fault.” He reportedly advised police that “the strengthening rain was also because of the Meteorological Agency.”

The assault happened amid heightened safety measures within the space, as police had elevated patrols across the embassy forward of a deliberate go to by U.S. President Donald Trump.
