Mai Hontama pulls upset at Japan Open

Japan’s Mai Hontama upset fifth-seedes Nadia Podoroska of Argentina 6-3, 6-3 within the Round of 16 on Wednesday on the Japan Open in Osaka.

Hontama received 80 p.c (24 of 30) of her first-serve factors, in comparison with 68 p.c (24 of 42) for Podoroska within the match lasting 1 hour, 27 minutes.

Third-seeded Xinyu Wang of China transformed 4 of eight break factors in defeating Jil Teichmann of Switzerland 7-6 (3), 6-3 in 2 hours within the Round of 32.
