Japanese researchers totally sequence matsutake mushroom genome

Japanese researchers say they’ve totally sequenced the genome of the endangered matsutake mushroom.

A bunch led by Shirasawa Kenta of Kazusa DNA Research Institute in Chiba Prefecture, close to Tokyo, reported the achievement to a world science journal on DNA analysis.

The researchers say they used a brand new know-how to research an extended sequence to study the matsutake’s genetic info.

They say they’ve discovered that the mushroom has 13 chromosomes and about 160 million base pairs, in addition to about 22,000 genes, which decide its form, style and scent.
