The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has introduced plans to attract up pointers for the introduction of a so-called twin pricing system that differentiates between international guests and native residents.
Under the twin pricing mannequin, increased admission charges are charged to international vacationers and guests who usually are not native residents once they go to home vacationer amenities. The system has already been adopted at a rising variety of locations abroad, and from this month it has additionally been launched at Himeji Castle in Hyogo Prefecture, a UNESCO World Heritage website.
Transport Minister Tetsuo Kaneko mentioned at a press convention on March third that “each facility will determine its pricing, including whether to adopt a dual pricing structure, based on its circumstances and consideration for local residents.” He added that such measures are “important for ensuring the sustainability of operations and services,” and confirmed that the central authorities will formulate pointers.
The pointers will take note of efforts to handle overtourism each in Japan and overseas, in addition to the present state of pricing practices at vacationer amenities, in keeping with the ministry.
