Japan Requests Extradition of Former Sea Shepherd Leader

TOKYO, Aug 02 (News On Japan) –
Japan has requested the extradition of Paul Watson, the previous chief of the anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd, who was detained in Greenland final month on suspicion of interfering with Japanese whaling vessels.

Watson was taken into custody by police in Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, on July 21.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the extradition request was made on July 31, however there was no response but from the Danish authorities.

Watson, the founding father of Sea Shepherd, was positioned on a world wished listing by Interpol in 2010 for his alleged interference with Japanese whaling ships.
