Japan PM asks Biden to deal with “strong concerns” in enterprise group over blocking metal takeover deal: media

TOKYO, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) — Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba requested U.S. President Joe Biden to deal with “strong concerns” in each Japanese and U.S. enterprise circles following Biden’s order to dam Nippon Steel’s takeover of U.S. Steel, native media reported Monday.

The prime minister conveyed the request throughout an internet assembly with Biden, in keeping with Jiji Press’ report.

“Strong concerns are being raised not only in Japan but also in the U.S. business community. I strongly urged that these concerns be dispelled,” Ishiba informed reporters, however he didn’t disclose Biden’s response.

On Jan. 3, the U.S. president determined to dam the takeover of U.S. Steel by Japan’s Nippon Steel, citing dangers to nationwide safety, whereas urging the 2 steelmakers to “fully and permanently” abandon their plan.

On Saturday, Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel stated the Biden administration delayed till June an order for the Japanese firm to desert its 14.1 billion U.S. {dollars} bid for U.S. Steel.
