Japan Moves to Strengthen Defenses Against AI-Driven Cyber Threats

TOKYO, May 18 (News On Japan) –
The authorities will maintain a cross-ministerial assembly on May 18th to debate measures to deal with dangers related to high-performance synthetic intelligence (AI).

The assembly, led by Digital Minister Masaaki Taira, will look at cybersecurity measures associated to superior AI applied sciences.

Senior officers from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Financial Services Agency, the Health, Labour and Welfare Ministry, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism are additionally anticipated to attend.

Concerns have been raised over the potential misuse of the high-performance AI mannequin “Claude Mythos,” launched in April by U.S.-based AI firm Anthropic, notably in relation to cyberattacks.

In response, the federal government plans to work with the AI Safety Institute (AISI), a company liable for evaluating AI security, to formulate tips for cyber protection measures.
