A 74-year-old lady who was detained by police for 3 days following her arrest for allegedly stealing a pack of inari sushi, has obtained an apology from Shiga police after investigations revealed she had obtained the pack as a present from a pal.
The incident started on the morning of April 13 when employees at a grocery store in Omihachiman City reported to the police {that a} lady inside the shop had shoplifted. The suspect, a 74-year-old native lady, was arrested after surveillance footage confirmed her selecting up gadgets within the meals part and seemingly putting one thing in her bag, together with a pack of inari sushi value about 300 yen, with out paying on the register.
Throughout the police investigation, the lady constantly denied the allegations, stating, “I did not do it” and “A friend bought it for me.”
Further investigation led to the identification of a male acquaintance who had given the inari sushi to the lady. After reconciling the shop’s stock with gross sales knowledge, the police concluded that no theft had occurred. The lady was launched and obtained an apology from the police three days after her arrest, having been detained for roughly 82 hours.
Deputy Chief Takahiro Suginaka of Omihachiman Station expressed deep remorse over the incident, stating, “We sincerely apologize to the person arrested. We will conduct a thorough investigation and take measures to prevent such incidents from happening again.”
