China’s Jiang/Wei win combined doubles title at badminton India Open

NEW DELHI, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) — Young Chinese pair Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin claimed a straight-game victory to win the combined doubles gold on the 2025 India Open right here on Sunday.

Second-seeded Jiang and Wei took 43 minutes to defeat French shuttlers Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue 21-18, 21-17.

“This championship is a great inspiration for us. We faced a lot of difficulties this week, but we overcame them all,” stated Wei after the match.

Women’s singles world No. 1 An Se-young of South Korea loved a cushty victory over Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-12, 21-9, bagging her second consecutive title following final week’s triumph on the Malaysia Open.

The males’s singles gold was clinched by two-time Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen of Denmark, who crushed Lee Cheuk-yiu of Hong Kong 21-16, 21-8.

In the lads’s doubles ultimate, third seeds Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin of Malaysia overcame South Korean duo Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae 21-15, 13-21, 21-16 to prime the rostrum.

Elsewhere, Arisa Igarashi and Ayako Sakuramoto of Japan received the ladies’s doubles title by defeating Kim Hye-jeong and Kong Hee-yong of South Korea.
