Caught napping? AI detects scholar postures in school

TOKYO, Aug 11 (News On Japan) –
A system has been developed that makes use of synthetic intelligence (AI) to establish “human posture” and different traits to assist enhance classroom outcomes.

Developed by Osaka Kyoiku University analysis group, the AI system will establish and file the posture of scholars who’re mendacity down or standing up throughout class.

This system is envisioned for use for reflection on courses, corresponding to whether or not the trainer is talking too one-sidedly or if the questions and assignments for college kids are at an acceptable degree.

Professor Fumio Nakaya, Osaka Kyoiku University Center for Education Innovation Design, says that “when a face is not visible from the front, it is labelled as learning disengagement.”

However, when this method is launched, there could also be considerations about college students being caught napping throughout class.

However, Associate Professor Kazutaka Niwayama suggests, “Rather than using this for surveillance, it’s important to consider how it can be used by teachers and schools to improve their teaching.”
